A book with a very sad premise--a 13-year-old girl from Nepal is unwittingly sold to a prostitute house in India. The writing is concise and poetic, with great use of white space. Short read too; I checked it out from the school library this morning and finished it while waiting to be picked up in the afternoon. My only issue is (sp?) Lakshimi's naivete, which sometimes stretches modern belief.

A heartbreaking novel, and highly recommended.


Next on my list is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, from the same library trip and also promising to be poignant.
