I know I just won't shut up about this, but Colin Cotterill's mysteries are Top Asian Crime Novels in my reckoning. Set in Laos just after the Communist revolution, magical realist murder mystery, wonderful wonderful wonderful.

(I have not yet started collaring strangers on the street to try to make them read these books. But I did talk my grocery bagger into the first one before I stopped being able to drive to get groceries for myself.)

Thanks for the links. The comments to the first one are quite interesting (now I know where to find online help if I ever decide to try Gravity's Rainbow, haha) ... sometimes it's frustrating to know that there is so much to read and I will never, ever get through it, but right now it just makes me happy.
