I know I just won't shut up about this, but Colin Cotterill's mysteries are Top Asian Crime Novels in my reckoning. Set in Laos just after the Communist revolution, magical realist murder mystery, wonderful wonderful wonderful.

(I have not yet started collaring strangers on the street to try to make them read these books. But I did talk my grocery bagger into the first one before I stopped being able to drive to get groceries for myself.)

Do you have a particular title rec to start with? I'm not in a mystery mood at the moment and I have a huge backlog to work through, but it's nice to accumulate multi-genre recs.
